(aka: Helleborus COSEH 4100) Helleborus 'Ice n' Roses Red' is Germany's Heuger Hellebores' first entry into a new group of sterile hybrid lenten roses known as Helleborus x glandorfensis, which are hybrids between Helleborus x ericsmithii and Helleborus x hybridus. The 15" tall x 24" wide clumps of dark green, evergreen foliage are topped, starting in late winter, with sturdy stalks of outfacing, ruby red flowers.
Maintenance:
Helleborus 'Ice n' Roses Red' is a maintenance free perennial. Since it is sterile, there is no worry about it reseeding excessively as is the case with some Helleborus x hybridus. To make the flower show more attractive, we prefer to remove the old foliage, which can often be a bit tattered, just as the new seasons flower begin to fully open.
Growing Conditions:
Good drainage is the key for best performance of 'Ice n' Roses Red'. Light shade or a couple of hours of morning sun will yield the best plants and best floral show.
Natural Impacts:
You'll notice honeybees visiting your lenten roses on days where the temperatures top 55 degrees F.
