Hedychium ellipticum is a little-known ginger lily from the Himalayas that's quite distinct from most commercially available ginger lilies. We've grown Hedychium ellipticum in the garden since 2000, and it never fails to stop visitors and butterflies in their tracks. The 5' long, strongly-arching stalks are clothed with 17" long x 5" wide, dark green, textured leaves and topped, starting in late July, with stunning, lightly fragrant flowers...a cone-shaped terminal inflorescence with narrow cream petals, highlighted by bright orange-red anthers. Hedychium ellipticum flowers equally well in part sun or light shade.
