Hedychium densiflorum 'Assam Orange' is a selected clone from the original 1938 collection of Hedychium densiflorum, made by plant collector Frank Kingdom-Ward at 6,500' elevation in Assam, India. Hedychium 'Assam Orange' was subsequently awarded an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticulture Society. In the garden, Hedychium 'Assam Orange' makes a short (by ginger standards) 3' clump topped, starting in mid-summer and again in late summer, with short spikes of tiny flowers...really quite showy and perfect for a smaller garden.
