Origin: Hybrid
Hedychium coccineum 'Slim's Orange' is a wonderful dwarf ginger that makes a fast-growing clump to only 3' tall...I guess it should have been named 'Slim's Fast'. We're getting warmer in tracking down its origin. Dale Batchelor of Raleigh ordered it from Florida and lost track of the name, later naming it after her gardening uncle, Slim Ruddell. Hedychium 'Slim's Orange' is a selection of Hedychium coccineum, confirmed by ginger guru Tom Wood. The narrow, slightly glaucous foliage is topped, starting in mid-June (NC), with 3' tall spikes ending in a head of bright scarlet-orange. Because of its slim size, Hedychium coccineum 'Slim's Orange' fits in even the smallest garden.
