I'm in love...with Erysimum pulchellum. Despite hailing from dryland climates like Turkey, Armenia, and Iran, pretty mustard wallflower has thrived in our climate of wet summers and soggy cold winters. In our well-drained rock garden, Erysimum pulchellum has formed a 2" tall x 2' wide evergreen mat of woody stems clothed with tiny leaves that make a ridiculously dense groundcover. Starting in late March and continuing into April, the clumps are smothered with 2" tall stalks of brilliant mustard yellow flowers...our favorite horticultural condiment to sandwich into our rock garden.
