(aka: Athyrium wichurae) We love this fern! Thanks to Judith Jones for sharing this very rare fern, originally from the former collection of West Coast fern collector Greg Becker. This Asian native makes a beautiful 4' wide patch in 5 years of upright, arching, dark glossy green, 1' long arching fronds. The dark purple-tinted stipe and heavily-veined leaflets make Diplazium wichurae one of the most distinctive looking ferns we grow. Diplazium wichurae was named after the 19th century German plant explorer/botanist Ernst Max Wichura...who knew?
