This amazing ice plant introduction originated from seed collected by plantsman Panayoti Kelaidis in 1994 near Springfontein in the Free State of South Africa. Delosperma 'Starburst' makes a flat 10-20" wide mat of fleshy green foliage. The foliage is topped from spring through summer with hundreds of large, 2", lilac-purple flowers highlighted by a white central eye. D. floribunda 'Starburst' superficially resembles D. cooperi but differs in the floral eye color, and it has more flowering in the summer months. For a hot, dry spot, this is the perfect choice.
