More Information About Delosperma

Thanks to the great work of Panayoti Kelaidis of the Denver Botanic Garden, we have an ever-increasing selection of succulent delosperma from the mountains of South Africa. For colorful spring and summer flowering, full sun ground covers, delosperma are hard to beat.

Delosperma species are very low growing succulents and are best placed in a container, rock garden or along the edge of a garden bed. All delosperma produce masses of vibrantly colored, butterfly-attracting flowers including pink, magenta, yellow, coral, salmon and white.

Some ice plants are better suited to cooler northern climates and others like it hot, but all delosperma are drought-tolerant and must have very well-drained soil to survive. Excessive moisture, especially in winter, causes ice plants to rot and die. We grow delosperma in a raised scree bed to prevent this. They are also salt tolerant plants. Depending on the selection, delopermas range from tight clumps to 3' wide patches. When you are ready to buy delosperma for your garden, we hope you will check out our online list of delosperma for sale.
