Cypripedium macranthos var. hotei atsumorianum is a highly prized form of the widespread Asian Cypripedium macranthos that hails from near Nagano, Japan. Named after Hotei, the Buddhist God of contentment and happiness, the 1' tall plants are topped in spring with a violet purple striped pouch highlighted by dark purple sepals. Because of its high elevation origin, Cypripedium macranthos var. hotei-atsumorianum typically flowers three weeks later than most of the other cypripediums. Our offerings are all flowering-sized plants grown in cultivation from seed.
