Colocasia 'Smiley Face' is a unique elephant ear we spotted several years ago in the Georgia garden of plant explorer Ozzie Johnson, and subsequently named to commemorate his constant ear-to-ear smile. Ozzie can't remember on which expedition he acquired it (happens at our age), but there's a high probability it came from one of his travels to Vietnam or China. We were thrilled to introduce it to the public for the first time in 2018. The 3' tall green stalks are topped with light green leaves, each adorned with dusty black blotches between the leaf veins. Colocasia 'Smiley Face' is a stoloniferous plant, spreading to 5' wide in 3 years when grown in a moist, rich site....much slower in drier soils.
