The pleated, green, basal leaves, evergreen down to single digits F, serve as a nice background for the 10" stalks of bright yellow flowers that start in mid-April (NC). The small flowers range from pale to medium yellow with contrasting lips ranging from bronze to purple...really charming. This represents a new series of orchid hybrids, Calanthe discolor, Calanthe sieboldii, Calanthe aristulifera, and Calanthe tricarinata, from the work of Japan's Mr. Kojima. Average to slightly moist woodland garden conditions are perfect.
