(aka: B. australis var. minor) Baptisia minor 'Blue Bonnet' is a 2015 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction that's one of our selected clones from seed originally collected in 1998 from Melissa, Texas...just north of Dallas. Baptisia minor 'Blue Bonnet' is the earliest flowering of all the Baptisia minor clones we've grown, starting in early April (NC). Up to 50 flower spikes emerge prior to the unfurling foliage, opening like a dwarf Baptisia australis with 30" tall stalks of blue lavender flowers. The small blue-green trifoliate foliage provides a nice foil for the flowers. Baptisia minor is incredibly easy to grow and drought tolerant...a perfect rock garden specimen. The stalks of huge black seed pods extend the season of interest into summer.
