Aspidistra 'Garden Gallery' is a Barry Yinger introduction from Thailand, that arrived as an unknown species. We were a bit surprised when it flowered and turned out to be a selection of Aspidistra vietnamensis. Aspidistra vietnamensis 'Garden Gallery' is quite similar to the more popular Aspidistra 'Ginga', but in our trials, Aspidistra 'Garden Gallery' is more vigorous, grows a bit larger, and the numerous leaf spots tend more toward creamy yellow than creamy white in Aspidistra 'Ginga'. Aspidistra 'Garden Gallery' flowers for us in mid-November, when the sparsely produced, burgundy flowers can be seen emerging from the ground around the base of the plant. The dwarf 1' tall clump is composed of 1' long x 2" wide, upright green leaves, well-speckled with bright yellow dots.
