(aka: PDN002) The recently (1983) publishd Asarum caudigerellum hails from moist woodlands and streamside between 5,000' and 7,500' elevation in the Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Hubei, Sichuan, Northeast Yunnan. In the garden, Asarum caudigerellum forms a ground-hugging deciduous groundcover of fuzzy heart-shaped green leaves. The plants are adorned for us, starting in early April with small reddish-bronze flowers, each with short floral tips. In Chinese medicine, Asarum caudigerellum is known as duan wei xi xin, and it is used as an anesthetic to relieve pain, to promote sweating, fever, and to make you throw up (aka: as an emetic)...perhaps it's better to enjoy it in your garden.
