This Himalayan species is found in rocky woodland forests from 8,000-13,000' elevation in Sikkim, Bhutan, and Nepal. The 18" tall stem topped with three-lobed foliage emerges alongside the simultaneously developing short-stalked inflorescence. The bright ruby-red spathe holds the whip-like ruby appendage which resembles an Arisaema griffithii whose hood has been lifted up in the front...for a peek, I'm sure. In climates with lots of moisture, plant Arisaema utile in a well-drained area where the corm will be dry when dormant but the roots still have access to moisture.
