Agave 'Bellville' is a fascinating hybrid of what we think is Agave americana x Agave asperrima x Agave gentryi. We've given this hybrid the name Agave x pseudoferox, which applies to all similar hybrids that circulate in the trade as Agave salmiana var. ferox (despite flowering plants not keying out to this species). Agave 'Bellville', which grows around Bellville, Texas, (near Austin) was shared with us by our friends at Yucca Do Nursery. The glossy, dark green leaves form a massive 4' tall x 8' wide clump. Each glossy green leaf, which features deeply indented teeth, is also bizarrely crinkled as it emerges, like a shirt that didn't get ironed well. When plants are young, even the spines are wrinkled....fascinatingly bizarre. We've had this in the ground since 2004 and have never seen any winter damage.
