Agave parryi ssp. truncata 'Bed of Nails' is a Plant Delights introduction that's one of the oddest agaves we've grown. This curiosity is a severely mutated form of Agave parryi ssp. truncata that we discovered in a batch of tissue cultured plants. Each rosette has been miniaturized, and instead of offsetting underground, each rosette simply splits, forming a dense clump like Agave isthmensis. We have not found Agave parryi ssp. truncata 'Bed of Nails' to be as winter hardy outdoors as the original parent, but it could be that it's simply more sensitive to winter moisture. Regardless, it's one really cool potted house plant.
