Agave multifilifera 'Starshine' is a stunning century plant, similarly patterned but different from the better known Agave schidigera 'Shiraito no Ōhi'. The leaves of Agave multifilifera 'Starshine' are 1/2" narrower (3/4" compared to 1.25") than Agave 'Shiraito no Ōhi', each surrounded by a very bright cream border. The solitary, non-offsetting Agave 'Starshine' is adorned with an abundance of small white curled hairs. The single digit F winter-hardy Agave multifilifera is native to the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Durango, and Sinaloa, where it occurs at up to 6,500' elevation. We originally picked up this variegated selection from the wonderful Dutch agave specialty nursery, Succulenta in 2004 with no name, so, in 2014 we christened it Agave 'Starshine'. While the variegation resulted in a loss of winter hardiness, Agave 'Starshine' is truly stunning as a container plant in cold winter climates.
