Agave isthmensis 'El Chichon' is a 2021 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a sport we discovered on Agave isthmensis 'Ohi Raijin Shiro Nakafu', but with a brilliant pure white central pattern that had the typical grey overlay removed. Agave 'El Chichon' makes a compact 6" tall x 6" wide rosette, composed of thick half dollar-sized leaves, each sporting a thumb-sized white central pattern surrounded by a glaucous border. Because of its resemblance to a volcanic dome, we named it after Mexico's infamous El Chichon. The offsets come from the trunk and not from underground runners like many other agave species. Because of its small size, Agave isthmensis is perfect as a container plant.
