Welcome to the garden!

Juniper Level Botanic Garden (JLBG), was established in 1986 by plantsman Tony Avent, with a goal of preserving botanic diversity by sharing rare and endangered perennials and educating the public about the exciting possibilities of gardening in the Southeast. JLBG is a private garden filled with more than 27,000 taxa of plants, including native perennials, rare plants from around the world, and an array of beautiful and unusual specimen trees and shrubs you won’t see anywhere else in the world. Learn what plants grow best in our zone and get inspired to create your own unique oasis of biodiversity.

During the Open Garden and Nursery Days we open our gates and invite everyone to enjoy the beauty of the garden. Our expert hoticultural staff (look for light green T-shirts) are available to answer all your gardening questions and to help you select the best plants for your conditions. We hope you will join one of our free educational lectures/demos/garden tours presented daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (see Gardening Unplugged section below). Food trucks are scheduled for lunch hours of 11 a.m - 2 p.m, see the selection below.

Please wear weather appropriate clothing and note that some paths may be muddy due to rain. Well-behaved children and pets are welcome, but must remain on the paths at all times for their safety (we have many spiny plants, slippery rocks, and water features in the garden). Visitors are welcome to gently touch and smell the plants. If a particular plant catches your eye in the garden and you'd like to know if it is available for sale, please take a photo of the plant and its tag and show it to a staff member. Please do not collect seed, plants, or tags from the garden. Thank you and enjoy your visit!
