More Information About Hamamelis
Witch Hazel is a deciduous shrub or small tree with two species native to Asia (Hamamelis mollis and Hamamelis japonica) and at least two species native to North America (Hamamelis virginiana and Hamamelis vernalis). American witch hazel grows throughout northeast and southeast North America, from Nova Scotia to Florida and from the Great Lakes to eastern Texas. Witch hazel prefers evenly moist, well-draining soil amended with organic material. Most species prefer part sun to light shade, especially in hot southern climate.
