Yucca elata 'Marathon'

Yucca elata 'Marathon' is a rarely offered North American native soapwort, hailing from Utah south to West Texas, where they are typically found on alkaline soils. This is an excellent narrow-leafed species, with the leaf edges curled just enough to appear as though it has a narrow white border...a great textural element in the garden. The numerous leaf filifers (hairs) add to the "whitish" effect of the clump. The blue-green leaves are slightly wider than typical Yucca elata. These can eventually top out at 8' tall, but that will take many decades. In midsummer, the trunks of foliage are topped with 6' tall spikes of white bells. This 2026 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of Yucca 'Marathon' is from a Wade Roitsch (Yucca Do) collection from Brewster County, Texas. Average to dry soils and lots of sun are the keys to success.
