(aka: Y. bacatta var. brevifolia) For years, this native of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts in Arizona was considered to be a variety of the banana yucca, Y. bacatta. The thick 4' tall trunks are topped with a head of boat-shaped leaves. When the plants mature, they are topped with spectacular 3' tall flower spikes of large white bells. Y. arizonica is found up to 6,000' elevation and should have good cold hardiness if kept dry.
