(aka: Y. kanabensis) This US native hails from northern Arizona and southern Utah, where it grows on dry hillsides and in desert woodlands among native junipers and Pinyon pines. The non- or short-trunked specimens form a rosette of 3' long stiff leaves, topped in spring with 3-4' tall spikes of white flowers that are often pink to purple in bud. Very well-drained soils are critical to its survival.
