Found on grassy slopes below 8,000' elevation throughout much of temperate Asia, Veronicastrum sibiricum is quite adaptable. Our 20-year-old clumps have expanded to 4' in width, and in spring the rigidly upright deciduous stalks burst upward, topping out at 4'. Starting in mid-June (NC), the uppermost 6" of the stem is a light lavender veronica-like flower stalk. For an architectural element in the perennial garden, it's hard to beat the easy-to-grow Veronicastrum sibiricum.
