The giant ironweed is truly a fabulous plant for the perennial border. In spring, the thick purple tinged stalks emerge and stretch to 8' tall. Adorned by 7" long leaves, the stems burst forth from July thru August with large terminal clusters of airy dark clear purple flowers... superb for butterflies! Giant ironweed is at home in a bog or typical garden soil.
