The stunning Trillium erectum occurs in rich, moist woodlands from Canada south to Georgia. T. erectum emerges in mid-April (NC), forming a 6" tall stalk, topped with three green leaves. Soon after the leaves unfurl, the bright red, quarter sized flowers pop up from under the leaf to stand perched atop the green foliage. In time, T. erectum makes a stunning large clump in the woodland garden. These plants were propagated from a population in Avery County, NC.
