Syneilesis subglabrata is a little-known umbrella plant that I first met on a 2008 expedition to central Taiwan's Wuling Farm region, where it grew in open woodlands with Arisaema taiwanense. The clumps are composed of thin, 18" tall, cinnamon-colored stalks, topped by a solitary leaf which emerges with much narrower lobes than the other species, with only a bit of grey hair in the leaf center. The very serrate leaf edges and glossy foliage, give it a unique appearance. In the garden it's proven very easy to grow in light shade and average moisture.
