Spiranthes sinensis is an Asian counterpart of our native spiranthes orchids, except that this native to China, Japan, and Korea has pink flowers instead of white. The evergreen ground-hugging rosette spikes upward in mid-July to 15", and when fully expanded, the tiny lavender-pink flowers with a white lip spiral their way around the naked stalk. Average to slight moist soil is best along with part day sun. If you're a pansy connoisseur and are expecting something as showy as a cypripedium, this demure gem is probably not be for you. In the wild, the summer ephemeral Spiranthes sinensis is usually found in grassy meadows.
