    Showy goldenrod is one of the best, but least known of the goldenrods. This clumping species forms tall 2' spikes adorned with foliage all the way to the tip, where in fall you will find 1' long brilliant yellow wands, just waiting for the butterflies to arrive. S. speciosa is very tolerant of extremely dry soils.
