This Dr. Jim Ault cross of the native Silene polypetala x Silene caroliniana resulted in this marvelous specimen for the dry rock garden. S. 'Longwood' makes a short, 4" tall x 12" wide, tight clump of small, glossy green leaves, smothered in late April/May with five-petaled, fringed pink flowers. Silene 'Longwood' grows best in full sun to dappled shade as long as the soil is well-drained. We have found this to be a superb garden specimen.
