(aka: Bryodesma bigelovii) For 2024, Plant Delights/JLBG is pleased to introduce another North American spikemoss that's virtually absent form the horticultural trade. Selaginella bigelovii is a West Coast species, and our offering is of a David Schwartz collection from Isabella Lake in Kern County, California at the southern edge of Sierra Nevada Mountains. In other words, this has no business growing here in hot, humid, North Carolina with our 46" annual rainfall. Nevertheless, Selaginella bigelovii 'Isabella' has thrived in a hot, sunny spot in our gravelly soil, rock garden since 2003, where it has formed a 6" tall x 3' wide patch in two decades.
