Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis 'Freckle Face'

Schisandra 'Freckle Face' is a 2022 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of our freckled-leaf variegate that popped up here as a seedling from our green-leafed parent. Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis is a small, non-aggressive evergreen vine, clothed with finger-sized leaves. It hails from woodlands in Southern China, where it occurs from 1,000' elevation all the way to 10,000'. We love the foliage as well as the late spring, small yellow, pendulous flowers that lead to thumb-sized bright red fruits which adorn the plant from mid-summer through fall. If that's not enough, several chemicals isolated from the stems have shown to have good activity against HIV.
