Scabiosa drakensbergensis is a little-known member of the scabiosa genus that hails from 5,000'-6,500' on South Africa's famed Drakensberg mountains, where it can be found growing in rocky grasslands. For us, Scabiosa drakensbergensis makes a rosette of large, felty, green leaves that are topped with 4' tall, leafy, branched stalks ending in small white pincushion-like flowers in mid-June. Scabiosa drakensbergensis is sure to draw stares from garden visitors. We have found Scabiosa drakensbergensis quite easy to grow as long as the soil drains well.
