Sarracenia 'Ritchie Bell' is the culmination of the pitcher plant breeding efforts of the late Rob Gardener and Dr. Larry Mellichamp. This vigorous hybrid involves Sarracenia purpurea, rubra, psittacina, and leucophylla. It produces 2' tall light green pitchers that are heavily veined red toward the top and solidly on the hood, with a few small white stained glass windows. In early spring, the re-emerging clumps are topped 18" tall stalks of burgundy red saucers. This amazing pitcher plant is named after NC Botanical Garden founding director, Dr. C. Ritchie Bell.
