Sarracenia x areolata is a hybrid pitcher plant from a cross of Sarracenia alata and the white-topped Sarracenia leucophylla. The pitchers resemble Sarracenia leucophylla, with an abundance of white windows, but the window veins are a combination of red and yellow...each seedling is unique. The flowers that top the re-emerging clumps in April (NC) hover from the 20" tall stalks like bright red flying saucers. Remember that sarracenias like moist toes but dry ankles...and plenty of sun.
