Salvia glutinosa is the European native counterpart of the Japanese Salvia koyamae. We saw Salvia glutinosa throughout the Balkans in 2012, where it grew in alkaline woodland soils with average moisture. Salvia glutinosa quickly forms a 3-4' wide x 3' tall clump of light green fuzzy leaves. From very late spring through summer, clumps are topped with abundant stalks of light buttery yellow flowers with an interior flecking of light purple...a truly lovely woodland perennial.
