(coll. #A17NC-016) We are very pleased to offer seed-grown plants from a very special population of Sabatia kennedyana from Juniper Creek in Columbus County, NC. The Juniper Creek plants form large colonies, thanks to short underground rhizomes. The green rosettes of Sabatia kennedyana 'Juniper Creek' give rise in May to thin but sturdy, 30" tall stalks, topped with the most incredible sprays of 1.5-2" bright-pink flowers. The plants from this population also have a lovely contrasting white pattern at the base of the petals. This fascinating species is also native to Nova Scotia, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. There is a study afoot to rename this population of Sabatia kennedyana as a new species, Sabatia caroliniana. Sabatia is easy to grow in a soil that stays moist to slightly moist, but not soggy.
