In 1934, seed of Rudbeckia sullivantii was sent from the US to Germany. After the war in 1949, famed nurseryman Karl Foerster saw a patch in flower and proclaimed it a "Goldsturm" (Gold Storm). The German name stuck on this wonderful US native. This relatively compact variety has basal winter green rosettes that arise in spring through early summer to produce sturdy 18" tall stems, smothered with 2" yellow orange daisies... great in sun or light shade... truly outstanding!
