Ranzania japonica is a rarely available monotypic (only one species) Asian cousin of epimedium, podophyllum, and jeffersonia. The deciduous 18" tall x 18" wide clumps emerge in spring with stalks of dangling lavender flowers held in clusters just under the developing foliage. If the flowers are pollinated, you can enjoy the white fruit during early summer. Ranzania does not love heat, so keep it in very open morning sun or light shade, where the soil is slightly moist, but the drainage good.
