Polystichum setiferum 'Proliferum Wollaston' has been the most heat tolerant cultivar of the Central Europe/Mediterranean native, soft shield fern, in our trials. It's discovery in 1852 from a Devon, England hedgerow by G. Wollaston, is a testament to its long-term durability. This elegant, soft, lacy, highly dissected selection forms a 1' tall x 2' wide evergreen clump that's tolerant of part sun to light shade. In the garden, it's very easy to grow in average garden soils.
