Pogonia ophioglossoides is a threatened US native bog orchid (from Canada south to Florida and west to Texas). It enjoys the same conditions as pitcher plants...wet feet, dry ankles, and acidic soils. In the wild, rose pogonia is dependent on fire to keep larger, more aggressive plants at bay. The 10" stem is adorned with a small, solitary green leaf and topped in spring with 1-3 small, light lavender, raspberry-scented flowers with a dark purple fringed lip...very cute, as far as purple fringed lips go. This is not an easy plant to grow and should only be attempted by skilled gardeners. We are thrilled to be able to offer nursery-propagated stock of Pogonia ophioglossoides.
