In 2001, we introduced this fascinating form of the ubiquitous, deer resistant native (Canada south to Florida and west to Texas), that we named after its originator, NJ plantsman Steve Silberstein. Phytolacca 'Silberstein' makes a stunning 5' tall garden specimen that's narrow at the base and wide at the top. The thick red stalk, is clothed with large oval leaves, heavily frosted with creamy white speckles, occasionally with branches that mutate to a green central pattern. The speckles are stunning against the bright red stems and purple fruit that hangs like grapes from the branches in late summer. Phytolacca 'Silberstein' will seed underneath the original plant, but almost all the seedlings are variegated...enjoy teasing your neighbors with this one!
