Phlox x glutinosa is a little known natural hybrid between two natives, Phlox divaricata and Phlox pilosa. This Aaron Floden seedling we named Phlox 'Spring Dawn' has performed wonderfully in our garden since 2007. The tight basal rosette gives rise, starting in early March, to 18" tall spikes of mauvy pink flowers with a dark eye. Unlike both parents, Phlox x glutinosa 'Spring Dawn' has remained a tight clump and is nearly impossible to divide, which is certainly quite odd for this combination of genes.
