We first saw Penstemon 'Pink Dawn' at the Chicago Botanic Garden, where we were blown away...they don't call it the windy city for nothing. This introduction from Intrinsic Perennial Gardens is a seedling of the durable native P. digitalis and an anonymous "who's yo' daddy?" parent (possibly P. calycosus). P. 'Pink Dawn' starts in spring as a winter rosette, when the stems begin to expand upward to 2' tall, topped in spring with bright pink flower heads. In habit, imagine a shorter, more compact P. 'Husker Red' with larger pink flowers, and you get the picture. We think this is an exceptional new introduction, and we are pleased to be able to add it to our list.
