Finally, we have a variegated version of our wonderful native (Maine to Louisiana) sundrop. O. fruticosa emerges from its winter rosette to form a dense clump of 1' tall spikes. Each spike is adorned with round green leaves, each highlighted with a dramatic white border. In midsummer, the clumps are topped with a cluster of round, brilliant yellow flowers. Oenothera fruticosa is already a traffic stopper when in flower, but O. 'Fruhlingsgold' is so bright, it's going to require a government warning label.
