(aka: Wigginsia pauciareolata, Parodia sellowii, Echinocactus sellowii, Malacocarpus tephracanthus) Notocactus pauciareolatus is another of the amazing South American (Southern Brazil and Uruguay) cactus that has performed spectacularly in our gardens, despite our wet winter climate. However, as with all hardy cactus, good drainage is essential. For us, Notocactus pauciareolatus forms a solitary dark green, deeply-ribbed barrel to 8" tall x 6" wide..often with a tuft of white hairy among the terminal recurved spines. The plants are topped with stunning bright yellow flowers in May/June.
