(aka: Parodia ottonis) Notocactus ottonis another of the wonderful southern South American ball cactus that have thrived in our trials. This one hails from southern Brazil, Uruguay, southern Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina, where it can be found in grasslands. This easy-to-grow species is quite precocious, flowering with a mass of yellow flowers when quite young, usually starting for us in early May. The green balls are solitary when young, but begin to offset as they age, maturing at only 1" tall x 2.5" wide. Be sure to provide very good drainage, and keep plants as dry as possible during cold winters.
