(aka: Parodia sellowii, Wigginsia macracantha) Notocactus macracanthus has been an outstanding performer in our in-ground trials at JLBG. In the wild, this Uruguay native can be found growing on rocky outcrops in the country's grasslands. In our rock garden, it forms 3" tall x 6" wide chubby green rosettes, topped, starting in early spring, with brilliant yellow flowers. Dry soils during the winter months are key to survival in cold winter climates.
