I'm in love with this splendid species of miscanthus, thanks to a 1979 Morris Arboretum collection at 9,500' in Taiwan. The 3' tall tufts of green foliage arch out to make a 3-4' wide clump. From July until late fall, the clumps are topped with 6-7' spikes of attractive white plumes. M. transmorrisonensis continues to flower well into the fall, presenting plumes at all stages of development. The effect is truly stunning! From Zone 8 south, the foliage is completely evergreen, and tardily deciduous in the North. Our trials have not shown the reseeding problem encountered with some of the earlier flowering selections of M. sinensis.
